In a
quaint college town 30 miles north of Houston, H.T. Jones
Elementary School houses the education of hundreds of
predominantly African American children through the fourth
grade. Sadly, these students are denied the basic luxuries that
all, predominantly white schools in the same district have as
standards. Similarly, just as many of the black voters and supporters of the
community have been deprived of their right to participate in
decision making due to Waller ISD's violation of the Open
Meetings Law and federal guidelines related to elections. Jones elementary school students are denied:
Air Conditioning in the gymnasium, a plentiful supply of new
library books, a playground rather than the small swing set all
the students share
And most of all…
A voice in their community, courts, and school district
meetings.
Fighting for the rights of the students of Jones Elementary and
Prairie View Voters, DeWayne Charleston has rallied support
and promoted awareness in the community. He needs your help in
winning equality for this neglected elementary school and
disfranchised community.
