DeWayne Charleston
Hello my name is DeWayne
Charleston. I am the parent of two children in the Waller
Independent School District. I also own a farm just outside the City
of Prairie View and serve as the locally elected official. I am
asking for your support to SAVE JONES ELEMENTARY. Jones has produced
per capita more doctors, lawyers, and other professional
African-Americans than any community in America. However, for 50
years the school has been neglected by the local school district and
now the clock is running out on its usefulness. The district desires
to walk away from its responsibilities to the African-American
community.
Rather than invest in educationally facility upgrades or new
construction in
Prairie View, the district plans to build a $18 million
dollar football stadium in neighboring
Waller, Texas.
Every child deserves equal facilities. We believe in the value of a
good education and quality facilities. For the tax dollars we pay,
we expect compliance with state and federal laws by our elected
officials with respect to educational funding.
